Magic

Magic (魔法, mahō) is the use of mana to achieve certain effects. Practitioners of magic are known as mages.
Principle
Nearly all magic in the multiverse is powered by mana, although some mages and machines can use alternate energy sources to power magic. Every mage uses mana slightly differently from each other, the most obvious difference being the default colour of a mage's spells.
Users of magic
As mentioned, practitioners of magic are referred to as mages. These people have the capability to store mana within themselves, and use it when casting spells. This is what sets them apart from ordinary humans, who cannot store mana, instead relying on objects to store mana. For a male mage, his power is often quite low at the start, and can increase with training. However, it will take a very long time until his power catches up with that of a female mage. Because of the slow growth in power, the most powerful male mages are often old.
In the universe where Innocence Seekers is set, young female mages (almost always under the age of 16) often have special powers no other mage possesses. These mages are referred to as Innocents, as this special power is often referred to as Innocence. Another term used to refer to these mages is "magical girl" (魔法少女, mahō shōjo), as that is literally what they are. An Innocent's power is often far higher than most male mages, and grows rapidly until she reaches puberty, at which power growth suddenly slows to the same rate as that of a male mage. Once an Innocent reaches puberty, she begins to lose her ability to use her Innocence (although her magic power does not decrease), until it is rendered inaccessible by the age of 16, turning her into an ordinary mage.
