Innocence Seekers: The Black Rose – The Cave of Illusions

I mentioned the Cave of Illusions a while ago. This post will detail some of my original notes for the location and its associated roguelike project, as well as some of my new plans for the entire thing.

The original Cave of Illusions project only featured one dungeon (the titular Cave of Illusions), which was meant to have as many as 65,535 floors. It featured a single player character, whose gender you could choose (note that gender only affected dialogue). Two NPCs, a mother and her daughter, helped guide you in your quest to the bottom of the Cave of Illusions.

The original intro text to the game was:
“The Cave of Illusions. It is said that whoever reaches the bottom of this near-endless cave will obtain immense power, however, the way to the bottom of the cave is fraught with danger. Out of the many adventurers who have attempted to reach the bottom, only a few have succeeded. The rest have either died or given up.
“Having heard of these stories, you decide to become one of the few to successfully descend to the bottom of the cave. You sell everything you own to raise enough money to pay for the trip to the small village of Laruna, where the cave is located. The journey is long and difficult, but you eventually arrive at your destination.
“As you are about to enter the cave, you feel someone grab your wrist. You look around and see a young girl, who invites you to her house, and gives you some money to prepare for your quest.”

There was a longer intro, but it would only be found in the manual. It described how you came to Laruna to tackle the cave. At the time, I hadn’t even started actually implementing the game’s features; all I had was the main menu and the intro screen. Of course, the original project can be considered to be abandoned.

However, I have a new Cave of Illusions project in the works. It’s still in the planning stages, but I’ve made changes to bring it up to date with the rest of Innocence Seekers: The Black Rose. Instead of just a single near-endless dungeon, I intend to have many dungeons scattered throughout the galaxy (actually, just the four “main” planets). The titular Cave of Illusions will be reduced, down to around a few hundred floors (with “rest stops” every 50 floors). I have yet to decide on what level cap I should implement; however, the stats are identical to those found in the main games.

As for the characters and setting, I’ve made changes. The original project was set in 2014, while this new project will be set in 2011 to tie in with the final chapter of Innocence Seekers: Mimori Flower Club. I won’t tell you the significance of the Cave of Illusions to the World Orbs just yet, though. Another change I’ve made is the player character; I’ve decided to make the player character another magical girl (of course, you’ll be able to choose her name). Mind you, though, for a text-based roguelike the appearance of the player character doesn’t matter (after all, you’re just going to be seeing the player character as an @ symbol).

I’ll mention more later, though. However, my next post will be Wakaba’s bio.

P.S. I’m impressed at what some people can do in Minecraft. These two images are of Kayo Fujikawa of Magic of Stella, and this is Ayame Seki, right next to Kayo.

P.P.S. Yuki Yuna Is a Hero will be receiving another season!

P.P.P.S. I’m planning to create a web site dedicated to Manga Time Kirara within the Innocence Seekers site sometime in the near future. I’ll post more details later.
